The following is a list of animal-related volunteer opportunies in and around the Ithaca area:

Tompkins County SPCA:
The Tompkins County SPCA has two types of volunteer opportunities: in-shelter and out-of-shelter. In-shelter opportunities include Kennel Cleaner, Adoption Desk Support, Dog Socialization, and Cat Socialization. Out-of-shelter opportunities include Foster Care, Event Support, Adoption Follow-up Calls, and Off-site Adoptions. Note that many of these positions require a minimum time commitment. Cayuga Dog Rescue:
Cayuga Dog Rescue is a 100% volunteer organization based in Ithaca, NY. Their mission is to rescue stray, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs in Central New York,as well as dogs that are deteriorating in regional shelters or are scheduled for euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding. They then place dogs in carefully screened foster homes before they make their way to their permanent home. Cornell Lab of Ornithology:

Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen:
Volunteer Work Parties are held on the second Saturday of every month, from April through November. All work party days are devoted to activities that help with operation of the sanctuary, contribute to the success of its education and visitor programs, and further its campaign and fundraising efforts on behalf of farm animals. Farm chores and projects may include activities such as shelter maintenance and beautification (e.g., cleaning, raking, painting, or gardening) or administrative activities like stuffing envelopes.
